Design a Clarks Original Wallabee boot that is inspired by the city of New York.
Insight
The 1964 Harlem Riot started in Harlem but sparked waves through the whole United States.
Idea
Clarks releases an Original Wallabee boot for the type of person who will stand up and do something about the unjust problems they encounter.
When The Suede Is Clean
The 1964 Harlem riot started due to the death of a 15 year old African American teen named James Powell who was shot and killed by off-duty cop Thomas Gillian.
“Dirty N****rs, I’ll wash you clean,” was shouted at protesting Black students while they were being hosed down.
Included in the boot design will be a dirt and waterproof detail that only shows up on the boot when the boot is dirty. This is to demonstrate that the boot was never intended to stay ‘clean.’
Suede material is known for getting dirty easily so using suede, a material that people usually strive to keep clean, would fit perfectly with the purpose of the boot.
When The Suede Is Dirty
“A Little Wild” were words used to describe Powell. This would also describe the type of person who would go against the grain and stand up for what they believe in.
The Wallabees would have two tags: the year 1825, the year Clarks was founded, and 1964, the year of the Harlem riot.
The ads would use Vocal Type Co. Martin font., a Black owned font.
